  • Notes
    • Went to St.Andrews in Scotland to study philosophy on 9-5-1618. He returned in Dordrecht on 9-4-1621.
On 23-10-1629 he sailed on "d'Arke Nohe" to "Fernanbock" (Pernambuco) as one of the five "Politique Raden" (civil administrators) of this newly established Dutch trading post. His younger brother Johannes was also on board. He arrived there on 8-5-1630, having been held up by "contrariewint" (adverse winds). His wages were high: 200 guilders per month.
On 19-2-1636 he sailed back home, arriving in Holland on 28-5-1636. His 17-year old daughter Maria died from the plague on 15-6-1636 in Cuylenburch (Culemborg). On 2-12-1636 Servaes went to Brazil again, this time as "Assessor in den Hogen en Secreten Raet" and "President van den Politiken Raet", for a salary as high as 400 guilders a month and other perks, including "vrije taeffel" (free meals). On 18-9-1645 Servaes died on Mauritius after having been ill for six weeks. He was buried in the "Groote Kercke" of Recife.
