    • manor lord and first colonial governor of New Jersey, was made a Chief Justice of this colony, an office he held for 16 years until 1754. In that year he became governor of Pennsylvania, but he resigned after two years as a result of the vigorous protests from the western pioneers over his frontier administration. Morris resumed his office of Chief Justice and held it until his death in 1764. Robert Hunter Morris inherited the New Jersey properties of his wealthy father, which also included a majority stake in the Tinton Falls iron foundry. Robert Hunter Morris never married but he had children, notably a son Robert
