  • Notes
    • In IA Genealogical Soc Surname Index, vol 2, pg 243 1975 code H58. .In 1840 members of the family began to drop an "l" in the name Lloyd.
1850 census for DAVI (Davis?) Co, Fox Twp, IA p. 283 there is a listing. Appanoose Co, IA deeds for Thomas and Selinda dating 1873, 1877 & 1880. In 1880 He lost some property for indebtedness.

1860 Fed Census shows, in addition to 8 of his younger children, a Pegna Crumley, age 64 b. in TN, Corine Crumley age 29, b. in Ind, Selma Crumley, age 20 (a teacher) b. in TN and Melissa, age 18 b. in TN living at his property 154-148. Shows John b
      in 1849 in TN.

The family lived in Hancock Co, TN from about 1845-47, and in Sullivan Co, TN until 1850 when they moved to IA.

1850 Davis Co, IA, Fox Twp Fed. census shows Resident/Family 89/90 with the following:

Thomas Lloyd ae 38 M farmer b. TN
      Elizabeth ae 30 F B. TN
      Sarah ae 14 F b. TN
      George ae 13 M b. TN
      William ae 11 M b. TN
      Joseph ae 7 M b. TN
      Rebecca ae 5 F b. TN
      John ae 2 M b. TN
Some of these birth locations must have been reported or recorded incorrectly.

1856 IA census pg 121/122 shows Thomas age 43 b. in VA, a farmer. Also shows Elizabeth, age 10?? b. in TN. No other records shows a child b. in 1846 in TN by that name, could this be a typographical error referring to wife Elizabeth who would
probably have been age 40 at that time? Other records show her b. in VA. Children shown are George, age 18 thru Margaret (Polly?) age 0. It may be that wife Elizabeth died shortly after Polly Ann was born in 1856.
This census also shows Rebecca and John both born in TN, yrs of 1848 and 1850. This indicates that Nancy K. (Katherine?) was born in IA in 1853. Elizabeth age 10 is listed immediately after Thomas' name which also might indicate she was his wife,
      daughter.

1860 Fed census of AppanooseCo, IA, dwelling 154 family 148 lists the following: Lloyd, Thomas ae 47 M b. VA, Farmer in Union Twp, Geo W ae 22, M b. VA, Wm, ae 19 M, b. VA, Rebecca ae 13, F b VA, John ae 11, M b. TN, Catherine ae 7, F b. IA, Dilly

      born?

1870 Udell Twp., Apanoose Co, IA federal census show Thomas and Zilinda with several children, including George Frost, b. abt 1862. Shows Rebecca born in TN and an Elizabeth born in 1863, which would make her a child of Selinda. No census in
Appanoose Co. in 1880 for Loyds, they moved to Monona Co, abt. 1880.

1885 Monona Co, State census lists Thomas as 71 and Cilinda as 49, Andrew, Jess, Levena, Vernilia, Liza, James, Clyde, and Frank at home.

1895 Monona Co, State census lists Thomas age 81, then Salinda in parentheses with a "D" after her name and her entire line lined out. She must have died about this time. Also listed as Vena, Nish, James, Clide, Frank, Eddie Riley and Harvey Riley
living in the home. Religion of Thomas was Baptist. Salinda was listed as being born in Appanoose, IA, other records show Indiana.

In "Monona County History, 1890", p. 368 there is a reference to Thomas which says he was born in Fauguier County, VA and HIS father was also born there in 1761. Thomas, Jr. moved to TN until 1850 when he moved to first, Davis Co, IA then Appanoose
Co, IA. Thomas, Jr.s grandfather was born in Virginia and his name was also Thomas. The father of the latter Thomas was born in England and came to VA during colonial times
      .

There is a Calvin Loyd listed in 1852 Appanoose Co, no Twp listed p. 38 in vol 1 of IA census records 1851-59.

1880 Census Monona Co shows Geo Frost ae 20. His father was b in TN.

Found gravestone in St. Clair Twp Cemetery, at west edge of Ute, IA with the following dates: b. April 7, 1813, died September 14, 1896 with the inscription: "We trust our loss will be their gain and they with Christ have gone to reign". Zelindia"
buried beside him with dates: b. March 30, 1838 and d. August 14, 1892. They are bured at 6th street, block 17 between Northside Ave and Central Ave of the cemetery.

A Charles Lloyd appears in App. Co marr records as being married to Martha Brown, 22 Oct 1860 by ALH Martin, JP, App Co, Bk 2 p. 84. Could this be the 23rd child of Thomas? Or he could be a brother to George W who was not Thomas' son.
