  • Notes
    • 1. The following, composed at Albany February 7, 1899, by Sarah Chesebrough (Jackson) Chesebrough ten days before her death February 17, 1899:

      "HISTORY OF ANTIQUE WORK"

"Done in Stonington, Conn., in 1750 by Miss Mercy Stanton, dau. of Thomas and Thankful (Denison) Stanton of Stonington,
who spun from prepared flax, forming it into yarn with her hands and fingers, twisted it by turning a wheel with her feet,
spun enough to weave into cloth to make a counterpane and suit of curtains and valance; then wove it in a loom by hand
and foot in her father's house; then bleached it and worked it with different colored worsteds, forming flowers to suit her
fancy, with a needle, doing it all herself."

In the possession of Anna Mercy Stanton Chesebrough of Mineral Springs, N. Y., August, 1902.
