perhaps the James Kennedy who married Margaret Reid 6 May 1811 in Dundee

from "The Blackwell Dictionary of Evangelical Biography 1730-1860", p. 696:

"Kennedy, James (b. Dull parish, Perthshire, Scotland, July 1777; d. Inverness, Scotland, 1863). A pioneer preacher with the
Independents, especially in Perthshire. Son of John Kennedy, a small farmer in Strathtay, Kennedy had a devout Episcopalian
and Jacobite background. Converted through the HALDANE preachers, he was trained as an evangelist by the Haldanes. He
itinerated widely as a preacher in Perthshire, mainland Argyll and Lorn. He became pastor of the Independent church at
Aberfeldy from 1806 to 1825, and established the church as the principal centre of Independent witness in Perthshire. In 1825
he moved to the Independent church in Inverness, where he preached until 1858. Although small in stature, he possessed great physical and spiritual strength, which earned him the Gaelic soubriquet /An Ceanadach Mor/ ('Great Kennedy'). He was a
      powerful preacher and fearless evangelist."
