Thaddeus Herndon officiating, he married Annie Chappelear, who was born June 7, 1838, near Flint Hill, Rappahannock Co., (see Chappelear line), and died in Richmond, May 16, 1922. She was married at her father's home, "Woodside", in Fauquier Co. William Ambrose took his bride to his old homestead at Pleasant View, in Amherst County. There theylived about five years. On May 19, 1884, he sold his farm of 373 acres on Horsley's Creek, given him by his fathr, having already moved to Fauquier Co., to "Ridgeville", near Delaplane, on a farm given to his wife by her father, Benjamin Chapelear. "Ridgeville", now owned by Williams youngest son, Bayard Ambrose Rucker, is a mile distant from "Woodside". William A. Rucker joined the army at the beginning of the war and was sent at once to Fairfax. He was in the 2nd Virginia Cavalry, Company E, under Col. Radford, later under Col. Thomas E. Mumford. The original officers were Edgar Whithead as Capt; Thomas Whitehead and Valentine Rucker, 1st and 2nd Lieutenants, and William Ambrose Rucker, sergeant of company E. William A. Rucker was in both battles of Manassas and in the Valley Campaign under Stonewall Jackson. He was a Master Mason, belonging to the Warren Lodge, No. 33, of Amherst County. The writer has his letter of transfer from his lodge, dated April 29, 1872, to Fauquier Co.,
