in 1923. Worked for Santa Fe railroads between studies. Admitted to
the bar on 21 Aug 1923. Lawyer in San Francisco until 1925 when he moved
practice to Richmond, CA. Joined Tinning and DeLap law firm in Martinez
in 1928. Deputy District Attorney for Contra Costa Co., nine years
including 1935. Appointed Third Superior Court judge in Contra Co. CA in
1945 by Earl Warren. Served on the Richmond school board for more than 10
years. Retired in 1967.
Charter member of the First Presbyterian Church in Richmond, CA. Member
of Alpha Shattuck Lodge No. 431, Free and Accepted Masons, Royal Arch
Mason Lodge No. 113, Richmond York Rite Bodies, Beacon Point chapter No.
383, Order of Eastern Star, and Benevolent Protective Order of Elks No
1251, all in Richmond. Member of Sons in Retirement Peralta Branch of
Berkeley, St. Andrew's Society, Y.M.C.A, Kiwanis Club of Martinez, Rock
Gardening Club of East Bay, CA Horticultural Soc., State Bar Assoc. of
CA, Contra Costa Bar Assoc. and Judges Assoc. of CA.
A very calm and lucid man. He took medium format slides for many years
and judiciciously showed them in limited quantities to visitors. He and
wife,Tave, traveled to several places around the USA. and the world. In
1990, at 92, he was living alone in the house he purchased in 1933. He was
also driving a large Oldsmobile to restaurants in El Cerito. The next
year, however, after falling down more than once he moved to a care
center. He had an angina attack in Dec 1992. Honored in 1994 as a member
of the Masons for 75 years in Richmond.
