  • Notes
    • - Wheelwright

He was the son of a free settler who arrived in Australia from Suffolk, Eng.,
in 1854 and settled in Adelong (NSW) in about 1861. In the 1870's, the family
set up a wheelwrighting and coach-building business, and as his sons and sons-
in-law grew older, they were each taken into the business, 2 as blacksmiths,
2 as wheelwrights, and one as a coach painter. The coaches, sulkies, and
spring carts were noted for their quality and durability, but the advent of
the authomobile caused the eventual decline of the business.
