  • Notes
    • sur Jure 9th Countess of Lennox
Isabel was the eldest daughter of Duncan, Earl of Lennox and on her and her heirs the earldom of Lennox was settled by a regrant in 1392. On 17 February 1392 her marriage was contracted with Murdoch Stewart, Duke of Albany. Murdoch acted as regent of Scotland during the imprisonment of King James I in England. As regent Albany had delayed the release of the king on the return of James, the eldest son of Isabel and Murdoch, Walter, and Isabel's father the Earl of Lennox were arrested. At the second parliament of King James, Murdoch and Isabel's other son Alexander were arrested. All four were tried by an assize of earls and barons, who condemned them to death as guilty of high treason. On 25 May 1425 at Stirling Murdoch, Duke of Albany, his father-in-law and his two sons Walter and Alexander were beheaded.

Isabel had been imprisoned but was afterwards allowed to reside in her castle of Inchmurrin in Loch Lomond. She died probably in 1458, probably in early May.
