  • Notes
    • "John Bill and Dorothy Tuttle Bill came to American (Boston) sometime before 1638 as Town of Boston records show that 'John Bill died 10 mo.(Dec) 1638.' A month later, January 21, 1639, Richard Tuttle became responsible to the Town of Boston for 'one Dorothy Bill, widow, a sojourner in his house, and for anything about her.'

There is no record of the Bill's Atlantic passage except for a boy named John Bill (see chart) and a girl named Mary Bill (see chart). Mary ...accompanied the family of Tutle, leading to the belief that her mother was a Tuttle."

"The first American John Bill is believed to be the grandson (son) of John Bill who was the printer for King James I. He printed 'The Works of the Most High and Mighty King James, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland; Defender of the Faith, 1616.'"

"As a small child, I remember being told that one of my Bill ancestors had printed a Bible for King James and (that there) are related Bills buried in Westminster Abbey. (That) is true as I found his altar-tomb in the Chapel of St. Benedict near the Poet's Corner and souvenir stand. How related they may be is probably a good question." (Letter from Doris Hagberg, Jamestown, NY dated August 14, 1998.)
