- There is a tradition that this family is descended from Ormus le Citherista (i e. Harper), alias Touchet, mentioned in Ormerod's "History of Cheshire", as coming over with William the Conquerer, and as the son of one of his barons. This tradition is of the origin of the family is somewhat strengthened by Shakespear-Henry V, act iv, Scene 2, line 35:-"Then let the trumpets sound. The Tucket Sonnance and the note to mount." The various branches of this family have always borne for arms a chevron between three crosses; the tincturew have varied as the exact spelling of the name has.
