  Joannes was an illegal (but nevertless legally recognised) son of Joannes Baptista Bouchette Sr. He was declared unfit for military service in 1821, and again every year thereafter (in 1822, 1823 and 1824) until he was definitively rejected after another medical on March 19, 1825, then aged 23-and-a-half. Employed as an office clerk, he married Catharina Alida Naessens three months later, with all official documentation listing his father as being "absent". When he died in 1860 he was shown as being unemployed ("without profession" as the Dutch documents called it) and all in all he was not likely to have been regarded as a "success" in life! He cannot said to have had a great start because even when he was baptised his father - although apparently recognising him as his 'natural' son - was shown in the record as "absent". A male and a female Linius were listed as being present as his "peter" and "meter" respectively.
