      obtained a pass to go to Spa 17 July 1656; took his seat in the House of Lords, 25 April 1660; Colonel of Foot 20 July 1666; Grand Master of the Freemasons [ENG] 1666-74; Steward of the honor of Halton, co. Chester, October 1669 (appointment renewed); High Steward of Macclesfield.

      He married, 1stly (licence London, 21 December 1647), he aged 21, she 20, with "consent of her mother Mrs Jeanes," "Elizabeth Scroope, of St. Sepulchre's, London, Spinster," 2nd of the three illegitimate daughters of Emanuel (SCROPE), EARL OF SUNDERLAND, by Martha JEANES, Spinster.

      He married, 2ndly (licence Vic. Gen., 6 August 1684), he about 50, she above 22, at Chelsey, Arabella, 1st daughter of Robert (BERTIE), 3rd EARL OF LINDSEY, being his only child by his 1st wife, Mary, 2nd and youngest daughter of John MASSINGBERD, of London.

      He died 14 Sep. 1694, in Great Queen Street, St. Giles in the Fields, London, in his 67th year, after 5 days' illness, and was buried 14 October at Macclesfield. M.I. Will, in which (inter alia) he styles himself "Viscount Rocksavage," dated 25 July 1688, proved 18 October 1694. His widow died s.p., 28 February and was buried 21 March 1716/7, at Edenham, co. Lincoln. [CP 11:27]
