Member of the Beach Boys.
Born at 10:55am-PST
Inducted by Elton John into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as a member of the Beach Boys) 20 January 1988.
Is the only member left from the original Beach Boys lineup that is in the current group lineup.
Wrote or co-wrote the lyrics to most of the Beach Boys' surf-n-car songs, and other classics, including "California Girls" and "Good Vibrations". Was not always given writer's credit, though, which led to millions of dollars in lost royalties for him. When cousin and composer Brian Wilson won $25 million in a settlement with publishers Irving Music, Love in turn sued Wilson, and was awarded $12 million. (There was reportedly no malice involved; each had trusted other people with business matters originally, couldn't come to terms later, and turned to the court to finally settle things.)
Became a follower of Transcendental Meditation in the 1960s, studying with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in India at the same time as The Beatles , Donovan , and Mia Farrow . While the Beatles soon abandoned TM and the Maharishi, Love went on to be a longtime supporter.
A liaison in 1966 resulted in his illegitimate daughter, Shawn Marie Love, whom Mike never publically acknowledged. In 1983, Shawn married his cousin Dennis Wilson , by whom she had a son, Gage. Shawn died of cancer in 2004.
Shares a birthday with fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members Sly Stone of Sly and the Family Stone and Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh.
