    • John Phillebrown purchased land from W. Symmes in 1720 in Menotomy,
      Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The 1910 Geneology states "He bought of
      ... W. Symmes two acres bounded east by Menotomy River, now Alewifes
      Brook, emptying into the Mystic River, bounded north by Creek to Garrets
      lot, west by highway, and south by Cambridge line, in 1720. Recorded in
      1724. This was his homestead a nd lay between the streets now called
      Massachusetts Avenue and Broadway, on t he east side if Winter Street,
      which is the fifth street east of the Soldiers ' Monument, standing at the
      junction of the above streets."

      Cambridge, Middles ex County, Massachusetts. John was elected Prudiential
      Committee-man, Northwe st Precinct in 1738 in Cambridge, Middlesex County,
      Massachusetts. John was e lected Precinct Collector, Northwest Precinct in
      1738 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.) He, a Puritan,
      Church of England, was a founding mem ber of the Second Precinct Church in
      Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachuset ts on September 9, 1739. "William
      Russell, John Fillebrown, Henry Dunster, an d John Winship were a
      committee to wait on (the Rev. Samuel) Cooke, and desir e his answer (to
      serve as the first minister)." This area was designated as t he Second
      Precinct in Cambridge or the Cambridge Northwest Precinct December 27,
      1732. On June 9, 1792 the area became known as the District of Menotomy.
      On February 27, 1807 the area became know as West Cambridge and by 1848
      the Church was known as the First Congregational Church, West Cambridge.
      On Apri l 13, 1867 the area was incorporated as Arlington.
      John resided in Charlestow n, Suffolk County, Massachusetts in 1744, 1745,
      and 1746. John registered to pay taxes in 1744, 1745, and 1746 in
      Charlestown, Suffolk County, Massachuset ts. In the land sale between G.
      Cutter and John Fillebrown in 1755 and 1756 n ear Cambridge, Suffolk
      County, Massachusetts, 623F was named as an adjacent l andowner. John
      Phillebrown sold land to John Fillebrown, his son, in 1756 in Cambridge,
      Middlesex County, Massachusetts. The 1910 Geneology states "With E dward
      Fillebrown and Gershom Cutter and wife Anne, he deeded to John Fillebro wn
      of Cambridge and Charlestown, husband of Sarah Kenrick, house and barn in
      Cambridge and Charlestown, with nine acres of land bounded northeast by
      roa d through fields, southwest by Concord road, northwest by land of
      Moses Harri ngton, east by land of Edward Fillebrown; also, five acres in
      Cambridge and C harlestown, bounded northeast by Menotomy River, north by
      lands of W. Dickson , John Butterfield and the heirs S. Whittemore, south
      by land of Joseph Adams ; with E. Fillebrown to G. Cutter the right in
      nine acres of land and buildin gs as before, together with two and
      three-quarters acres (of the above five-a cre lot), 1756, recorded 1758;
      to G. Cutter one acre (of five acres) recorded in 1758, his wife Sarah,
      joining in the conveyance." In addition to other ac tivities, John was
      politically active. The 1910 Genealogy, page 5, states "Jo hn was first
      treasurer of the Cambridge Second Precinct set off in 1732. In
      Proprietors' Record, John Fillebrown (written each time ffillebrown, the
      fir st letter being doubled in place of a capital, as was frequently done
      in thos e days) appears as one of a committee of four chosen by the
      Selectmen of Camb ridge at nine different times in the year 1724-30 to
      view and locate streets. He was Precinct Collector 1738."
