  • Notes
    • 1. Robert came to America in 1630 with William Chesebrough in the Arbella of Winthrop's fleet (Robert Burroughs according to Stiles History of Wethersfield, page 168). Stories are told that Robert and his two brothers were forced out of Manchester, England because of religous persecution. The brothers may have settled one in New York and the other in Pennsylvania but did not arrive with Robert. Robert may have come from Lancastershire, England because of his friend Robert Parke who also came in the Arbella.

      2. Robert settled in Wethersfield, Connecticut in 1639 later removing to Mystic, Connecticut where in 1660 he was appointed the ferryman across the Mystic River. He ranked third in Mystic based on the taxable property held.
