  • Notes
    • 1. Bright owned many acres of land in the Little Eastatoe valley of Pickens County, South Carolina. There is a good account of his deeds, settlements of estates, and etc. in the Pickens County court house, Pickens, South Carolina. Bright Gilstrap Sr. was a successful farmer and he was also a very generous man. Before his death , February 11, 1877, as recorded in the Pickens Sentinel , and on
file at the Caroliniana Library at the University of South Carolina , he gave most ,if not all, of his real estate to his children and heirs. When his estate was settled, there was mention of farm tools, livestock, furniture and personal property only. It is believed that Bright Gilstrap Sr and his father Lewis (Louis) are buried in an old cemetery in the Little Eastatoe valley that was known in early times as Old Friendship Methodist Episcopal Church, South.
