- In W.W.1 Smith manufactured munitions –‘good ammo too’ for which he was awarded the CBE. Anne earned the MBE for her work with the girls in the factory. A large oil portrait of her, painted by Jack Yeats, father of the poet W.B. Yeats, was displayed at a major exhibition in Paris.
