  • Notes
    • He went to London. Was he the son of Maurice or Richard?

!... All the other Carpenters in the lesser trades could be sons of William.
One you haven't heard about was Richard Carpenter the Brewer. From
      Close Rolls, August 14, 1339.
"To the sheriff of Berkshire. Writ of sepersedas, and order by mainprise of
George Crecy 'goldsmith', Richard Carpenter 'bruer' of the city of
      London...."
After this Richard comes a Phillip Carpenter 'bruer' and should be son.
All these Carpenters, plus Richard the Candlemaker, should be lesser
descendants of the main line who had the real money.
Per Partial E-Mail from Bruce E. Carpenter dated Tue, 25 Jul 2000
      From: "Bruce E. Carpenter" MORE:
The following, dated 1305, shows how the merchant
Carpenters were in business with King Edward and shared merchant
ventures with him. The others named in this document all
seem English which suggests an English origin of the named
vessel. From London to Gascony, Spain or Italy? The named
Richard le Charpenter should be a close relative of London
Edward le Charpenter and others at that time.
"The like to Henry (sic) de Staunton, Roger de Suthcote and Hugh Reverel,
on complaint by William le Poer, coroner in the islands of Sullye which
belong to the county of Cornwall, that whereas he went to
le Vale and Trescau in those islands to enquire touching homicides and other
felonies, and to do other things pertaining to his office, and wanted to
      take charge
of a wreck of the sea in the town of Trascau which happened at that time
and belonged to the king, Robert sage, Henry Sage, Robert de Hencastle,
Walter his son, Richard le Charpenter...."
