  • Notes
    • King of France (986-987).
Louis, Lothar's son, succeeded his father in 986 A.D. but reigned under the control of his mother, Emma. He was in conflict with Archbishop Adalberon of Reims, who was allied with Hugh Capet. He died in 987 A.D. as a result of a fall from a horse and had no heir. His death marked the end of the French branch of the Carolingian dynasty and he was succeeded on the throne of France by Hugh Capet.
