    • Attorney

Migration was in April 1635, Wiltshire, England, to America in the ship Planter. William of Lincoln's Inn (in Middlesex, near London, England) apparently rates this title because he lived in Lincoln's Inn, not that he was born there. He signed the Harleian Society's Herald's "Visitation of London", 1633-5 for his Ball family ancestors and siblings. He was one of four attorneys in The Office of Pleas in the Exchequer Court. We believe he is our immigrant ancestor coming to and settling in St. Mary's Parish, Lancaster County, Virginia. A William Ball arrived in America on the English ship Planter about April, 1635 with six sons - Alling, Francis, John, Samuel, Richard, and William (according to "The Name And Family Of Ball", age 21) and affirmed by a genealogist with the Institute of American Genealogy of Chicago.

We have found by a "preponderance of the evidence" that William of Lincoln's Inn had the six sons Alling,Francis, John, Samuel and Richard and William (William of Millenbeck)! Some sources state incorrectly that William of Lincoln's Inn was also married to Dorothy Tuttle. Our majority of sources dispute this and record Dorothy married to William's son Alling Sr. Our only mystery is information that William of Millenbeck arrived in America ca 1650. It's possible he returned to England after arriving with his father in 1635, married Hannah, fathered his children and then returned to America - if all his children were born in England. William of Millenbeck, married Hannah Atherold, settled in Lancaster County, Virginia and was the great-grandfather of George Washington. Genealogist cannot confirm or deny William of Lincoln's Inn's son Richard, brother of William of Millenbeck, great-grandfather of George Washington, is the Richard Ball confirmed as our ancestor. However, we believe our Richard is the brother of William of Millenbeck considering this additional information: Arthur J Ball, a documented descendant of Richard Ball's son John (W. W. Hoskins): "John Ball of Lee County,Virginia ....., (page 35, #193 Arthur J.) stated 'our handed down history is we are related to George Washington, I think about a fifth cousin. Arthur J. Ball was born only forty seven years after George Washington's death and his grandfather, Revolutionary War Soldier, John Ball, was a contemporary of George Washington. Arthur's documented statement, within the time frame of the statement, is very believable.
