      - Given the land for perfecting the art of making pitch and tar.

      - In 1673 he was ordered to command the train-band with Simon Wolcott.

      - Elected Selectman 1677 in Simsbury, CT.

      - Literate at least to ability to sign his name.

      - Estate consisted of 3 sq. mi.

      - Fined 20 pounds for riotous conduct 6 Sep 1655.

      - Prob. bur. in a private cemetery on his property in an unmarked grave of stones.

      REF: Ralph Turner: was born in 1608/9 in Wales.(845) He died in Aug 1681 in Simsbury, CT.(845) Died after drinking cold spring water while overheated. He was buried. Probably buried in a private cemetery on his property in an unmarked grave of stones. From London, England on 24 Aug 1635 arriving abord the Constance 24 Oct 1635 to VA. In 1638, when Lord Baltimore of MD ordered an atack on the VA islands of Kent and Palmer, under protection of Captain Caliborne, Secretary of VA, John Griffin escaped by ship from VA. First in Ct records in 1642. Fined pence for not having his arms in shape on 4 Jan 1643. Took oath of fidelity on 1 Jul 1644. In Windsor by 1647. In 1648 he manufactured tar. An indian burned his place. He was given 200 acres of land at Massaco (Simsbury), CT in 1663. He settled thre and became a freeman in 1669.. Lived in a Stiles house in 1659. First appears in Windsor records Aug
      1659. On 6 Sep 1655 Wm. Hayden complains of the riotous conduct of John Griffin, John Bancroft and Jacob Drake in his family and frightening his wife. John was fined 20 pounds. Granted 200 acres of land at Massacoe in 1663 by the General Court for perfecting the art of making pitch and tar. In 1673 he was ordered to command the train-band with Simon Wolcott. Elected Selectman
      1677 in Simsbury, CT. He could sign his name. Estate consisted of 3 sq. mi. Estate inventory of 23 Aug 1681 included abt 3 sq. mi. of land (abt 1920 acres).
      Probably buried in a private cemetery on his property in an unmarked grave
      of stones.
